Exchange
by Jason Springer Every year American spend so much time and effort to give thanks for what they have, that thankful attitude is soon forgotten the next day on black Friday. A day where greed consumes ones soul and everyone pushes and fights for useless items that will sit in a corner until the next year. Black Friday contradicts everything thanksgiving stands for and shows ones true values and greed. People spend their hard earned dollars to fill the void left by greed. |
Greed of Hearts by Alexis Sago Black Friday is a day where people trample each other for low prices and good deals mere hours after giving thanks for everything they have and praying for the less fortunate. Year after year Black Friday has started earlier and earlier. Nowadaysit’s should be called Black Thursday instead. Starting at 7 o’clock families have already ended celebrations and are preparing for war or are already at the battle grounds camping with greed full hearts. |
15 Will Get You 20
by Brianna Alipio As the crowd goes wild with millions of sales, I see a man walking by me. A man I’ve seen almost all day walking my way, yet never approaches me. My family sees it as well and we hide by the shoes. 15 dollars off; 20 dollars off. The man spots us. What should I do? He comes closer and closer. I yell out “15 will get you 20!” And walk off in embarrassment and pride. |
Day of Chaos
by Jackie Garcia Thanksgiving has become more than just a day to sit around a table with your family and friends. It’s no longer just a day to give thanks for all the things that you have. It rapidly transformed into a day of shopping and chaos. Pushing people around, running into the stores and fighting over clothes is what Black Friday is all about. Society formed a materialistic attitude, shopping for objects that we don’t need. It’s mostly about things that we want. Happiness should not be about going crazy over sales or materials, happiness should be all about being with the people who care about. |
Orderly Chaos
by Chris Almazan Black Friday : the images of crazed shoppers and large crowds automatically race through our minds, because that’s exactly what ran through mine on Thanksgiving night. Though I must say the experience was completely different. At one of the stores, the traffic and parking availability was worse than downtown Chicago. Pedestrians crossing the road, squad cars blocking parking areas, it was chaos at first, but through all this chaos, one thing stood out. The organization. Everything fit into place. The parking, the lines, the crowds, the police officers, everything ran smoothly. The Orderly Chaos brought a new sense of Black Friday. A more enjoyable approach |
Peril of a Cart
by Tony Gerardo They throw me back without a thought – except this time. Abandoned at the car lot, left between two cars in an empty space. How much can they toss onto my back? How much can I carry? People rushing, pushing, shoving, getting ready to leave-- it was complete chaos! The turmoil unleashed from these folk was unseen, until tonight. I’ve faced what no shopping cart should ever have to face. Please--Please! Take me back to my spot! |
Not Just Another Friday Night
by Brenna Smith It’s the night after Thanksgiving and everyone is ready to shop and get the great Black Friday deals. Lines wrap around stores, people fight to get the last item on sale. It makes you wonder if the people buying all these items really need them, or is it just greed? The buyers are hyped up on coffee and wired from the long hours that will erode into the next day. Clothes are thrown all over the floor; shelves are empty, just like a teenager’s room when they frantically try to find the perfect outfit on a Friday night. But this Friday night is not about going out and having fun, it is simply a night of greed. |
