The Multiples Project
We are not one piece. We are all a composite of Multiple pieces. On the simplest of levels we are all Sons/Daughters, Mothers/Fathers, Friends/Enemies, Acquaintances/Lovers, Bosses and Workers. No one is one thing to all people. History and Literature are filled with heroes who loved their country, but abandoned their families or Titans of Industry who gained the respect of world leaders but hated by the workers who created their success. We all have our moments of crystal sunshine, only to be followed by the coal blackness of despair. For most, the changes in moods are shrugged off with a twist of a knob or a walk in the park. For others, a corrosive grip can hold them prisoners of bleakness for hours or days. Some never escape. Some say it’s Chemistry, some point to Divine Providence, or to our Genes, to the Stars, or even the Luck of the Draw. Whatever the cause, we are not the Fortress Island we want to believe. "You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should." "Dark Nowhere"
by Alejandra Aguirre
One person can have dozens of personalities. It’s only matter of time until those personalities build up inside & try to escape. With all the personalities in one person it feels like they slowly drag a person down. The feeling of being suffocated with different emotions, just wanting to escape the body. Without any warning a person’s inner dark personality can appear out nowhere and the person never knew what happened..

"Phone Change"
by Jackie Benitez
Don’t you ever wonder how from one moment to another your emotions can change in a blink of a second? How with one message or one photo your emotion can change. Just looking at the phone or message can make you happy for one moment or even sad. A phone can change everything for your emotions. Just seeing or hearing something or even looking at something can make everything change, from being happy to sad or sad to happy.

"Unique Piece"
by Lizbeth Calderon
We will never truly know a person. They always try to show the best side. Deep down we all have something we hide. Perhaps, we’re afraid. Society tells us to be "Perfect", but that’s a lie. Today we see teenagers hating everything about life. They feel they don’t fit in the circle of "Perfection". They will try to smile, but deep inside they are dying. They tell their parents that everything is OK, but they cry themselves to sleep. Why do we hide part of us, when we can be a Unique Piece? After all, the uniqueness inside us is the one that will make a difference in this world.

"Perfect Insanity"
by Emilee Nichols
How many times has a person kept something to themselves? A feeling, a snide comment, a nervous compliment. People have a tendency to keep thoughts and feelings to themselves. Especially fear. Fear is so commonly hidden. In an effort to seem confident, calm, and fearless, people hide their true fear. It’s this raw emotion, locked inside for so long, that’s clamoring to be let out. Begging, pleading, to be shown and expressed. It can constantly be felt, clawing at your insides, whining to be let out. It can make any perfectly sane person go perfectly insane.

"Blink of an Eye"
Arianna Contreras
I think there comes a time when we don’t know how or what to feel. This picture explains that moment to me. The emotion and facial expression I captured is as confusing as that moment. We change how we feel in a blink of an eye. This photo represents the shift of feelings that occur anytime we have an unknown situation in our life. This is also a good example of the phases we go through and how different each phase is, the difference each one has changes a person’s perspective in life and themselves.

"Dangling Souvenirs"
by Mayra Pensado
I always knew there was another me locked away inside. Clawing at my stomach and trying to get out. Maybe that’s why I went a little insane. Madness woke me up every morning with a thirst for insanity, the coffee was just to hold it in. I created multiples of me before I found out who I actually was. In the end, I kept all of them inside the basement dangling from hooks like souvenirs. They were all a reminder of myself and I couldn’t help but smile.

"The Eyes Have It"
by Leon Epting
One person can think a million thoughts. The eyes in this photograph are the main symbol. There are many eyes on the left. They represent Thoughts or Judgments. We fail to realize how much we judge one another. A Clean Slate is what the right side represents. There’s nothing bad there but sometimes we need to evaluate and judge so we don’t get hurt in the long run. Finally the middle, the neutral one. The middle is just one set of eyes, one person, one mind. This is how we should all be, aware but not too judgmental.
